Resource Books To Support Your Life Journey
The following are great resource books that I’ve read and will support you in living life fully.
"The Third Age, 6 Principles Of Growth And Renewal After Forty" by William A. Sadler. The Third Age is from age 50 to 80 and is the Age of Fulfillment. The six principles of growth and renewal developed by Dr. Sadler give you a good foundation for creating fulfillment in your life. I was so inspired by the participants in Dr. Sadler’s research, I took the training to be a licensed Third Age Coach.
"The Empty Nest – 31 Parents Tell the Truth About Relationships, Love, and Freedom After the Kids Fly the Coop." Edited by Karen Stabiner. This book is great whether you are becoming an empty-nester or the kids have already flown the coop. The experiences of other parents, both Moms' and Dads', are tender, insightful, amusing, and wise. You are sure to see yourself in at least one of them and it’s reassuring to know you are not alone in the roller coaster of emotions that come with this life transition.
"Younger Next Year (for Men) – Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy – Until You’re 80 and Beyond" by Chris Crowley and Dr. Henry S. Lodge.
"Younger Next Year for Women – Live Strong, Fit, and Sexy – Until You’re 80 and Beyond" by Chris Crowley and Dr. Henry S. Lodge. With titles like that how can you not be motivated to run out and buy the books! They are "why" and "how to" books on fitness and health after age 50. Dr. Lodge gives you the research and science behind his recommendations and Chris Crowley shares his experience and tips in implementing them.
"Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui" by Karen Kingston. Whether you are ready to downsize your home or need motivation to de-clutter, you will find Kingston’s approach motivating. When you understand why you hold on to things and the energy around clutter, it’s easier to sort it, clear it and let it go.
"Getting Things Done" by David Allen. I first bought this book on my coach’s recommendation after she suggested that I could do anything but not everything. Allen provides a simple and effective process for staying organized and getting things done. Learning the "two minute rule" was worth the price of the book.
"The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work" by John H. Gottman and Nan Silver. This book was recommended to me during my training in relationship coaching. It gives practical advice for maintaining a nurturing relationship with your spouse. It would be especially useful as you adjust to the kids leaving the nest and when you retire. Both are opportunities to re-create and enrich your relationship.
"The Artist's Way – A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity" by Julia Cameron. If you are at the stage in your life when you are ready to explore and discover your creative side, this book is an excellent resource. Ms. Cameron taught a creative workshop for many years and believes that there is an artist within each of us. The Artist's Way is based on her workshop and includes exercises to help you uncover your inner artist. I still use one of the daily practices called "morning pages".
"Good Night & God Bless, Volume 1, A Guide to Convent & Monastery Accommodation in Europe, (Italy, Austria and Czech Republic)" by Trish Clark.
"Good Night & God Bless, Volume 2, A Guide to Convent & Monastery Accommodation in Europe, (France, U.K. and Ireland)" by Trish Clark. Each volume is a "guide to cheap, safe, clean and well-located accommodation for travelers in Europe". Many convents and monasteries have opened their guesthouses to travelers, regardless of religious affiliation or lack thereof. Ms. Clark does an excellent job in providing detailed info on each of the convents and monasteries including their history, location, contact info, web site, cost, dining options, and places of interest in the area. I used it for my stay in Nice, France. Another resource of support is my monthly newsletter "Active and Alive!". Please subscribe and as a bonus you will receive my free e-course "Simple Self-Care Strategies".
